YATIM was established in 1992 as a non-governmental organization and has a tax exemption status from the Malaysian Inland Revenue Board (JHDN.01 / 35/42/51 / 179-6.4041). Since its launch, YATIM has been endorsed by former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Y.A.Bhg. Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad. YATIM's advisor is former Malaysian Finance Minister, Y.A.Bhg. Tun Daim bin Zainuddin.

YATIM is the only non-governmental organization (NGO) in Malaysia that caters to orphans who do not stay in dormitories or orphanages. This is due to the fact that the majority of orphans in Malaysia live with family or relatives.

YATIM has always embarked on a vision and mission with a focus on organizing training programs that emphasize the cultivation of pure values, academics, skills, leadership, motivation, and value added to orphans across Malaysia regardless of religion and race. Each year, YATIM organizes about 60 programs with annual participation of over 3000 students.
